Case Study: Afikra
COMMUNITY BUILDING, CREATIVE DIRECTION, EVENT PLANNING
CHALLENGE:
The desire to form the Afikra community was born out of frustration that there wasn’t a space dedicated to actively learning and sharing research about the region's history and culture. Michael Muhanna approached me early on to be a founding member and help shape the brand as well as the community.
SOLUTION:
Afikra is a monthly gathering and global community that fosters curiosity in the forgotten stories related to Arab history and culture. We are now present in 8 cities worldwide, and have coached over 150 presenters to date.
Branding
The Afikra brand is sophisticated, yet inviting. It represents a community of curious individuals who are tired of having shallow conversations, and want to meet like-minded individuals.The website, recently redesigned, includes archives of previous talks as well as profiles of team members around the world.

Events
I manage the Dubai events, and have seen beautiful growth over the years. We now attract up to 100 attendees every time, and have had almost a consistent monthly track record of events. We often partner up with spaces to host, as well as caterers to provide food.
